The goal of the Fraternity and Sorority Life conduct process is to positively impact future decision making through educational and developmental opportunities and create an avenue of support in the Greek community. The Student Conduct Code is more than a set of rules and regulations. It is a statement of our institutional values and the ethical and moral development we nurture as an academic community. It is necessary that our fraternities and sororities are held accountable for violations of university policies and applicable council expectations. It is our hope that organizations will gain knowledge and understanding from the experience and make more informed decisions in the future.
The conduct process is designed to emphasize education by focusing on the growth and development of the student(s)/organization, encouraging self-discipline, and fostering a respect for the rights of others and policies. The purpose of conduct is to redirect behavior, to protect the rights of others and to encourage social responsibility.

Interim Action
The Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, or designee, may take emergency action when immediately necessary to secure the health or safety of any persons and there is an alleged violation of the Student Conduct Code. This interim action includes but is not limited to:
- Immediate interim suspension of the student organization from the University;
- Restrictions on the organization’s participation in University Sponsored Activities; or,
- Loss or restriction of the privileges associated with University recognition.
During an emergency temporary suspension, the organization shall be prohibited from engaging in all organization activities. The organization will be denied access to all University activities and privileges for which the organization might otherwise be eligible.
The following chapters are currently on an Interim Action status, pending the outcome of the student conduct process:

Fraternity and Sorority Chapter Status
Below is a list of chapters that, as a result of violating University policies or accepting responsibility for organizational misconduct, have been issued one or more of the following administrative actions:
Loss of Privileges — The chapter is denied specified privileges normally associated with recognized student organization status, such as such as participation in or sponsorship of University activities and use of University facilities or services for a specified period of time. The precise parameters of the restriction may vary depending on the circumstances and will be specified to the group.
Social Restriction — A status, imposed for a specific period of time, in which chapters are barred from or limited in engaging in, participating in, hosting, or sponsoring social events or other activities. The purpose of the social restriction is to allow chapters and their members to reflect on creating and sustaining socially responsible environments and behaviors and to demonstrate the ability to abide by community standards and University expectations. The precise parameters of the restriction may vary depending on the circumstances and will be specified to the group.
Disciplinary Probation — This status is imposed on a chapter for a specific period of time to allow the group to reflect upon their choices and behavior and to demonstrate the ability to abide by University policies and expectations. Any additional violations during the probationary period may result in additional or more serious sanctions, including group suspension or expulsion.
Deferred Organizational Suspension — A status in which a chapter is given a specific period of time to demonstrate the ability to abide by community standards while maintaining University recognition. If a chapter on “group suspension (suspended)” is found in violation of any act of misconduct, a full and active “group suspension” will most likely be imposed.
Organizational Suspension — This action is a total separation of the chapter from the University for a specified period of time. This includes total restriction on the organization conducting any activity that in any way promote the goals, purposes, identity, programs, membership, or activities of the organization. Once the suspension period is over, if the chapter has met all other terms of their action plan, they are eligible to apply for re-recognition. This action includes a recommendation to the inter/national organization to revoke the charter and disband the chapter.
Organizational Expulsion — Indefinite dissolution of organizational recognition by the University. This action is a total separation of the chapter from the University. This action includes a recommendation to the inter/national organization to revoke the charter and disband the chapter.
Chapters may also be assigned educational, reflective, and/or restorative outcomes. These projects or activities are developed to promote personal reflection and growth, repair any harm caused, and help the chapter realign with institutional and organizational values.

Alcohol was present and no security or safety measures were put in place to mitigate underage consumption of alcohol. Therefore, alcohol was permitted into the event. Current Unrecognized Fraternities and Sororities
The following organizations were once recognized Greek-lettered organizations at the University of Oregon, and despite having lost recognition from the university, choose to continue to operate and/or recruit. Recognition for these organizations was revoked following an In Violation finding for serious conduct violations by Student Conduct and Community Standards. (Charges are listed below.)
An unrecognized fraternity is no longer associated with the university. The organizations and their members do not receive any support or advisement from the university. Unrecognized fraternities may not participate in any university-sponsored activity and may not utilize any property owned, operated, leased or managed by the University of Oregon. The university no longer has a relationship with this classification of organizations.
The university strongly discourages maintaining or seeking membership in these organizations, and has significant and serious concerns about the health and safety of our students and the university community if these organizations continue to recruit and operate.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon – Oregon Beta | The chapter hosted a party at a live-out facility at which there was alcohol. Kappa Sigma – Gamma Alpha | Kappa Sigma hazed their new members, including substantiated allegations of forced consumption of unpleasant substances, forced consumption of alcohol, and a scavenger hunt.
